Acute on Chronic Liver Failure: Causative Factors and Comparison of Prognostic Scores

چکیده

Background: Acute-on-chronic Liver failure (ACLF) is a distinct entity, different from patients with cirrhosis and de compensation. However, despite being a devastating syndrome with inordinately high mortality, the precipitating factors or prognostic scoring systems remain ill defined. We studied the precipitating factors, role of various factors on outcome and compared prognostic scores in predicting short term (30 days) outcome.

Static and dynamic prognostic factors for hepatitis-B-related acute-on-chronic liver failure

BACKGROUND/AIMS Hepatitis-B-related acute-on-chronic liver failure has a poor prognosis. However, the advent of potent oral antiviral agents means that some patients can now recover with medical treatment. We aimed to identify the prognostic factors for hepatitis-B-related acute-on-chronic liver failure including the initial as well as the dynamically changing clinical parameters during admissi...

Glyphosate Poisoning with Acute Fulminant Hepatic Failure

Background: Glyphosate containing herbicides are widely used the world over. They are marketed as nontoxic to humans, but numerous studies have showed that these glyphosate-based herbicides (GlySH) can cause multiorgan damage.1 Recent reports of animal studies on rats have raised a doubt of liver damage after long term exposure to GlySH. Case Presentation: a young male had chronic exposure to G...

Acute-on-chronic liver failure: a time to step forward.

Acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) is defined as a syndrome characterized by acute deterioration of liver function on a chronic liver disease, associated with extrahepatic organ failure and high short-term mortality (≥ 15%). This concept represents a disruption in the traditional spectrum of liver diseases, particularly in liver cirrhosis. ACLF may appear during liver disease ranging from co...
